Weight is appreciated after information on “mild symptoms” with Omicron

The Mexican peso operates with profit against American dollar this Monday. The local currency begins the week in positive territory, after knowing information about the symptoms of patients with the Covid-19 Omicron variant.

The exchange rate stands at 21.2757 units compared to an official close of 21.3734 units per dollar on Friday, with the data of the Bank of Mexico (Banxico). This means a loss of 9.77 cents, which is equivalent to 0.46 percent.

The cross moves in a range with a maximum of 21.2969 units and a minimum of 21.2024 units. The Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the greenback against a basket of six benchmark currencies, advanced a slight 0.11% to 96.23 units.

“Mild symptoms”

Initial observations suggested that patients infected with Omicron show mild symptoms. The peso operates stable, but caution prevailed due to the possible effects that this new mutation may have on the economy.

Mexico became the second country in Latin America to register a case of the Omicron variant on Friday, reporting the presence of the strain in a person from South Africa. The first case was officially found in Brazil.

Anthony Fauci, the United States’ chief responsible for infectious diseases, stated that “so far [esta nueva variante Ómicron de Covid-19] does not appear to have a great degree of severity [en cuanto a sus síntomas]”.
