Wearing a mask: a certain relaxation in Quebec

While the obligation to wear a mask in public places should be lifted on April 15, with the exception of public transport, we are already seeing a certain relaxation in the population.

Nevertheless, some intend to continue wearing it for some time to come.

“I will keep it. I find that it is relevant because there is an increase in cases, ”testifies a lady met by TVA Nouvelles in downtown Montreal on Wednesday.

“Just because there are no more restrictions doesn’t mean that COVID no longer exists,” thinks a young man.

“It’s still too dangerous. Even, just now, when I took the metro, there was one who was coughing en masse, ”says another lady.

Walking in the metro, we realize that the majority wear the mask properly. But some have difficulty complying with sanitary measures.

While some people wear it incorrectly, others just don’t wear a mask. The situation disturbs metro users.

“It makes me feel uncomfortable. Wearing the mask is to avoid COVID,” said a man who was in front of another user who was not wearing his face covering properly.

In underground Montreal, the same observation.

“I don’t care about that”, proclaims a young adult.

“From a youth point of view, we don’t need that. We just want to get back to our normal life. That’s all we want right now,” adds another.

But professor at the School of Public Health at the University of Montreal, Roxane Borges Da Silva, reiterates that wearing a mask is effective.

“We are sick of the health measures, but unfortunately the pandemic is not over,” she says.

The increase in cases in the province worries him.

“Why remove it at this stage, when we may be on an increase in cases due to the relaxation of sanitary measures? Science, in fact, would recommend that we keep it,” she says.

Wearing a mask has now been firmly rooted in our habits for the past two years. It remains to be seen whether Quebecers will want to play it safe from April 15.
