The Mérida 8M Platform has called this Wednesday a massive claim to request the cancellation of the performance of Placido Domingo next September 25 in the capital of Extremadura after the accusations of sexual abuse.

The group thus invites citizens to present “massive complaints” for said action this Wednesday, the 15th, at 11:30 am in the Register of the City Council of Mérida, to request the withdrawal of support and publicity by public institutions to the performance of Plácido Domingo.

“We do not want stalkers or abusers in our settings”, says the 8M Platform of Mérida on the poster of the call.

Rejection of the Government of Vara

Last july the Executive of Guillermo Fernández-Vara stated his “rejection” before the performance of Plácido Domingo within the festival’s program Stone&Music Festival in the Roman Theater of Merida in which the tenor and baritone Plácido Domingo will perform.

In fact, the Governing Council of the Junta de Extremadura has decided that the Extremadura Orchestra do not perform at the concert announced for the day September 25th.

The regional government has also decided that from this moment on, “the programming of any concert, festival or event that is sponsored by the regional administration must be approved prior to the granting of such sponsorship.”
