We are looking for an experienced business writer who is passionate about journalism and wants to make an impact by reporting on Canadian businesses’ responses to climate change and how they are innovating and adapting to a warming world.

• Salary range: $80,000 to $90,000 a year, depending on experience

Position Overview

As a CNO climate business journalist, your work will focus on the intersection of innovation, technology and solutions to climate change within Canada. Her expertise lies not only in understanding the complexities of business and environmental dynamics, but also in recognizing and exploring the potential of diverse sectors and business practices to contribute to climate solutions.

Its reports will be aimed at business and finance professionals, offering them news that is not only informative but also practical and applicable to their fields.

Your responsibilities will extend beyond writing and include tracking, tracking, and documenting the impact your articles have, using various metrics to measure their influence.

This position may occasionally require multi-day trips once or twice a year, in addition to regional day trips. There is also the possibility of international travel during the second and third years of employment.

Responsibilities

Working with a project management editor, you’ll strategize coverage areas, story ideas, and tactics to establish and grow a dynamic new beat focused on business and climate solutions at CNO. This beat will aim to offer invaluable content to business owners and managers. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Idea Generation and Research: You will be tasked with generating and proposing compelling story ideas spanning various sectors including the construction industry, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), such as the circular economy, electric vehicle transformation ( EV) and the integral. role of companies in the electrification of the network, among others.

• Content Planning: Working closely with the project’s Managing Editor, you’ll co-create a detailed content calendar, outlining story timelines and publishing schedules over the duration of the project to ensure a constant flow of impactful reporting.

• Story Production: You will use your outstanding research and writing skills to produce engaging stories about how small and medium-sized businesses are affected by climate change in Canada and how they are innovating to meet the challenge. You’ll write for a business audience and plan engaging visual assets to accompany each story.

• Impact Analysis: You will actively monitor and document the reach and influence of your stories through various metrics such as page views, reader levels, audience engagement, comments, reader and stakeholder feedback, mentions in business circles and politicians, and inclusion in official government. communications and records.

• Monitoring Media Influence: You are responsible for observing and evaluating the media’s response to your work and how partner organizations and external entities leverage your reporting to promote their objectives.

• Impact Reporting: Annually, you will compile and present comprehensive reports that summarize the impact and reach of your journalism, highlighting key achievements and areas for future exploration.

This role requires a proactive and innovative approach to journalism, with a strong emphasis on creating stories that not only inform but also drive meaningful action and change in business and climate solutions.
