The Waterloo region says that as the work of vaccinating area residents against COVID-19 moves into the maintenance phase, the vaccine distribution task force is being disbanded.

“We were the first Ontario region to achieve 80% first dose coverage across all age groups, demonstrating the commitment and passion of our task force members,” said Regional President Karen Redman.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank each member for an extremely successful launch of the vaccine that has received 844,214 doses administered in the region to date.”

The task force will be scaled down this week, as 416,765 residents of the Waterloo region have already been fully vaccinated.

This means that 70.77 percent of area residents have already been vaccinated, a number that rises to 82.19 when only those who are eligible to be vaccinated are included.
