Water rationing program still does not affect merchants: Canaco Servytur Monterrey

Monterey, NL. The water rationing program has not yet affected businesses and services, because they are scheduled outages, however they have had to prepare with water tanks and tanks to store the vital liquid, said Javier Arteaga Gutiérrez, president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism from Monterrey.

“We have presented to the new government the concerns we have, specifically in the trim (of water) It has been well programmed and reviewed and we have prepared ourselves like everyone else, with water tanks and cisterns to store water during those hours of the day that we have, we have not really felt it”, emphasized Arteaga Gutiérrez, ratified as president of Canaco Servytur Monterrey for the period 2022-2023.

He argued that shops and services have not had any impact on their sales because there is a normal supply of water from 5 in the morning to 9 in the morning, and the rest of the day there is little pressure and there is a cut only one day.

As for whether they have a Plan B for the summer when the average water consumption increases, he explained that at that time of the year, consumption reaches 16,000 liters per second, currently the capacity they have, due to the low level of La Boca and Cerro Prieto dams, is at 13,000 liters per second.

He asserted that it will be possible to maintain the current level of supply with the extraction of water from the El Cuchillo reservoir and the shallow and deep wells (119) that are being drilled, in addition there is a good response from the industrialists who are contributing their private wells.

The leader of the formal merchants assured that they have already approached a company that has the largest wells and with another nine they have already spoken so that they allow some of their wells to be used, or pay for the extraction of deep wells, with this they will be contributing 300 liters per second, plus the wells that are being paid would be 700 liters per second.

The state government will be supported with the issue of the wells in April and May, “in June we expect rain and today, as never before, we are asking for a tropical storm to come in August or September and solve us (this drought)”, stressed the leader.

Industry recovery

In another order of ideas, Javier Arteaga Gutiérrez, commented that although the trade and services sector is in the process of recovery, it has not yet reached the levels it had before the pandemic, the expectation is that the recovery will occur in 2023.

Now that businesses have 100% capacity and there is greater mobility and more sales, Canaco Servytur Monterrey expects a 15% increase in sales during Easter.

In addition, they are scheduled to carry out The Best Bridge from April 29 to May 2, so they are asking all merchants to join this campaign.

One of the challenges they have faced since the pandemic began is that with the closure of companies, the lack of microcomponents, and this affects that there is no supply of new cars. In addition, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has affected oil prices, although the federal government has decided to cushion this rise by not collecting the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) and other fiscal mechanisms.

On the other hand, “there is a world inflation, for the first time if I am not mistaken, since 1980, the inflation of the United States is greater than that of Mexico with 7.9% and 7.5%, respectively; it is an imported inflation”.

There is seasonal inflation in food products, in fruits and vegetables, this depends on the rains, in addition, with the demand for imports, the price of the products moves and now there is a new variable, depending on the degree of safety where these products are harvested, like avocado or lemon, he said.
