Wall Street futures start week higher

Wall Street index futures started the week with slight gains in early trading on Sunday, snapping losses from last week.

NASDAQ futures were up 0.26% at 12,583.75 points, while Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were up 0.16% at 32,942 points, and S&P 500 futures were up 0.21% at 4,115.50 points.

Last week, all three stock indices closed lower, with the S&P 500 posting the steepest drop, -1.20 percent. The NASDAQ Composite and the Dow Jones fell 0.98 and 0.95%, respectively.

The Mexican stock market also had a negative week, with a weekly drop of 3.38% for the S&P/BMV IPC, from the Mexican Stock Exchange, and a 3.46% drop for the FTSE-BIVA, from the Institutional Stock Exchange.

Carlos González, director of Economic and Stock Market Analysis at Monex Casa de Bolsa, explained that the losses were due to the environment of uncertainty, amid high inflation and the forecast of interest rate hikes.

He anticipated that later in the year, the stock market will continue in the midst of a volatility scenario “until these variables are resolved.”

For its part, the Mexican currency opened operations on Sunday with a slight gain of 2.12 cents against the dollar, for a parity of 19.5465 units per greenback at 6:00 pm Mexico City time.

Last week, the peso had a gain of 3.87 cents, trading at 19.5677 pesos per dollar.
