The UHC-Hub of Opportunities, a long time VON partner, hosted a ceremony Wednesday to recognize the milestone.

“Great things happen when great people work together,” said June Muir, CEO of the UHC-Hub of Opportunities. “Our longstanding collaborative partnership with VON has been so successful because we both understand the importance of having access to fresh, nutritional food no matter the limitations.”

The VON, which has existed for 125 years, joined forces with UHC in 2013 for the Meals on Wheels program to deliver meals to people who are unable to shop or cook their own. Over the last year, volunteers delivered 45,000 meals to vulnerable seniors.

Meals on Wheels started providing frozen meals during the pandemic, but is now switching back to hot food deliveries.

“VON is very excited that they are able to resume the delivery of our daily hot meals and is confident that the safety measures we have in place will ensure that our clients, staff and volunteers continue to receive quality programming,” said Meals on Wheels supervisor Christine Brush.

“Our staff and volunteers are eager and look forward to providing daily wellness checks along with nutritious meals. A healthy combination that will continue to allow our clients to remain independent in their own homes.”
