It was on the night of Saturday to Sunday, around 3:15 a.m., that a young woman was stabbed while walking on Maisonneuve Boulevard West near Roslyn Avenue in Westmount.

“The victim was in serious but stable condition” this afternoon, confirmed the public relations officer of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), Gabriella Youakim.

While patrolling the area, City of Westmount public safety officers stumbled upon the altercation.

Stabbed in the head

They are the ones who arrested the suspect, a 42-year-old man, before handing him over to the SPVM.

Curtis Jonas has a long criminal record, did not know the victim and is expected to appear tomorrow at the Montreal courthouse.

According to initial information, the suspect first pushed her in the back, before beating and stabbing her several times.

In particular, she was stabbed directly in the head.

In this particularly quiet residential area, it is amazement.

The police went door to door this Sunday in Westmount looking for witnesses.

A nearby resident who witnessed the scene was still in shock today.

“I saw a lady on the sidewalk with an aggressive man, but immediately the police were there. He started running, fell and was arrested, ”he explained to the microphone of TVA Nouvelles, adding that he had seen that the woman was suffering.

Katherine Hope, who lives around the corner from where the crime took place, says it’s the first time she’s seen a tragic event like this in her neighborhood.

“I have a 19-year-old daughter, so for sure it’s terrifying. Normally, the neighborhood is really very quiet, ”she said, visibly troubled.

Earlier in the night, around 2:30 a.m., an altercation broke out in a bar on rue Saint-Denis and left two stab wounds.

Two men were stabbed in a double armed assault that occurred at the exit of bars, on rue Saint-Denis, near rue Émery, on the night of Saturday to Sunday.

The conflict, which involved the two victims and three suspects, took place outside the establishment, at the intersection of Saint-Denis and Émery streets.

The two victims were out of danger today and the police were still trying to better understand the origin of the conflict.

Recall that late Friday evening, two gun attacks and one stabbing in the east of the city left three injured. The events took place almost simultaneously.
