The Alouettes announced the return of quarterback Trevor Harris on Wednesday, adding one more significant piece to what suddenly is becoming a logjam at the position.

Harris, 35, was acquired in a trade from Edmonton last October, after Vernon Adams Jr. sustained a season-ending shoulder injury. Harris replaced Matthew Shiltz late in the third quarter of an Oct. 30 loss to Saskatchewan, remaining the team’s starting quarterback the rest of the season.
That included the East Division semifinal loss at Hamilton during which Harris fumbled three times and was intercepted eleven.
He was released on Dec. 20, well in advance of being owed a $300,000 February signing bonus.
Although the Als had discussions with Harris and his agent, Paul Brown, about a potential return, they believed another team would sign him before the start this week of CFL free agency, while paying him a starting quarterback’s salary.

After Ottawa signed Jeremiah Masoli, following his release by the Tiger-Cats, Edmonton and BC appeared the most likely destinations for Harris. His return from him to Montreal would indicate neither of those franchises expressed an interest.
Als general manager Danny Maciocia initially refused to confirm Harris’ return, probably because he had yet to receive a returned, and signed, contract, while Brown didn’t respond to a request for comment.
In four regular-season games with the Als last season, Harris completed 64 of 91 passes for 703 yards along with eight touchdowns. He was intercepted twice. The nine-year veteran has played for Toronto, Ottawa and Edmonton.
While Adams has recovered from his injury and recently was signed to a contract extension, the Als last Friday signed quarterback Dominique Davis following his release from the Redblacks. That same day, they released Shiltz, who was eligible to become a free agent. Shiltz subsequently was signed by Hamilton.
Montreal also has quarterbacks Shea Patterson, Quinten Dormady and Davis Alexander under contract.
