Predictions Vancouver Whitecaps vs Toronto FC

Our side and total predictions are based on our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite selection in all markets.

side analysis

Vancouver will be happy to play their next three games at home, given how poorly the road has treated them so far this season. Through five road games, the Whitecaps have been beaten in all five and outscored 14-3 in the process. His xGA during that time is just over eight goals, but key defensive lapses and bad-time turnovers have led to a huge gap between expected and actual goals.

Toronto visits the city for the first of three straight Whitecaps games at BC Place Stadium, where they suffered losses in just two of their last 15 games, both against Portland. The playing surface at BC Place has always been an advantage for the host team, and they have kept two clean sheets in three home games this season.

The visitors arrive in the city having been involved in the only midweek game in MLS this week. Their last two games saw them beaten by FC Cincinnati, but Wednesday’s game saw them play a man for all but six minutes.

The team is struggling hard after a solid start to the campaign, and apart from striker Jesús Jiménez being tied for the Golden Boot lead with seven goals, there are few positives to note at this point.

Injuries and suspensions aren’t helping Toronto, as questions about manager Bob Bradley’s team selection were raised on Sunday. With three central midfielders out, Michael Bradley can be heavily relied on not only to provide services on the pitch, but also to help stop Vancouver’s attack.

Unlike Toronto, the Whitecaps will rest well after a bye week, and the addition of a new designated player has raised morale among the fan base. Attacking midfielder Andrés Cubas was signed by Ligue 2 side Nimes and should give a boost to an attack that has scored just six goals in eight games, all from different players.

If there’s any team to get back on track against, it’s Toronto. His 21 goals conceded is the second most in the league, and his depth will be tested after a short week and plenty of travel. Vancouver has taken all three points in eight of its last 10 home games where the opponent wasn’t Portland, and I don’t see any reason that trend should end here.

Prediction: Vancouver Whitecaps (-110 at DraftKings)

Covers soccer betting analysis

Over/Under Analysis

Toronto FC’s defense has been atrocious this season, even at full strength, and they have yet to keep a clean sheet in their last 18 games since 2021. While Vancouver has struggled to score, they managed two in their last games in home against Portland.

Additionally, FC Cincinnati scored twice in each of their two games with Toronto, having previously dealt with their own offensive issues.

Vancouver was unlucky enough not to score seconds after halftime in its last game, a 3-0 loss at Austin, and had 12 shots in the game but scored just one. I like his chances to be higher quality against a Toronto team that has conceded 12 goals in five away games this season. Take Vancouver to find the bottom of the net at least twice on this one.

Prediction: Vancouver Whitecaps Team Total Over 1.5 (-120 at DraftKings)

best bet

While Toronto has found the back of the net eight times in five away games, four of those came in their 5-4 loss at NYCFC. Their 2-0 loss to Cincinnati was the first time all season they haven’t scored, but their midfield absences and busy schedule make it highly likely that it will happen again.

Vancouver has kept a clean sheet in two of its three home games this season, and in four of its last eight at home since last season. Given the likelihood of another clean sheet, combined with the price tag, I just can’t pass up Vancouver by keeping Toronto scoreless as my best bet of the match.

Choose: Vancouver Whitecaps clean sheet (+190)
