The son of Vancouver Canucks general manager Jim Benning was attacked over the weekend, according to Benning’s daughter.

Danica Benning shared the news on her Instagram story, which has now expired.

He said his brother was going to buy them an Uber in front of the Banter Room on Mainland Street in Yaletown around 2 a.m. Sunday.

He said four men pounced on his brother and “nearly beat him to death.”

Danica said she tried to fight them, but was attacked herself. The suspects fled when Vancouver police were called.

He added that his brother is now in the hospital.

Vancouver police confirmed that an assault occurred in the area at the time and a 25-year-old man suffered injuries to the face.

Police did not confirm the identity of the victim.

Jim Benning has two children, but declined to comment on the incident.
