Valtònyc he should never have been sentenced to three years in prison for his songs. His lyrics were denigrating, sexist, violent and basically bad. It is even probable that today’s Valtònyc did not subscribe to them. But none of this could lead to such an excessive sentence. A sentence that represents an unbearable threat to cultural creation and a source of shame for our democracy. Now him Belgian constitutional has ruled that the Belgian law of 1847 on insults to the king is contrary to freedom of expression. The ruling responds to a question referred by the Ghent Court of Appeal, that must be pronounced shortly on the delivery of the singer. The extradition of Valtònyc is complicated for the Spanish courts.
