Vaccines against Covid-19 of mRNA do not cause absence of menstruation: EMA


Available data suggest that mRNA Covid-19 vaccines do not cause absence of menstruationconcluded on Friday the health regulator of the European Union.

The evaluation was prompted by reports of menstrual disturbances after receiving one or two injections of the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines.

Menstrual disturbances can be due to a number of reasons, including underlying medical conditions as well as stress and tiredness. Health authorities have highlighted that cases have also been reported after infection by Covid-19.

The absence of menstruation is defined as the absence of bleeding for a period of 90 days or more.

Meanwhile, the Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) continues to investigate cases of heavy menstrual bleeding with the two vaccines.

The reports on menses Abundant bleeding—bleeding characterized by increased volume and/or duration that interferes with quality of life—was highlighted as a potential concern after a Norwegian study suggested an increase in cases of this phenomenon after inoculation.

On Friday, the committee said it had reviewed all available data on possible risk, but had asked vaccine makers for an updated cumulative review of cases.
