UWindsor Campaign Receives Matching Gift for New Data Analytics Lab

A fundraising drive for a state-of-the-art data analytics teaching lab at the University of Windsor is halfway through after a $ 350,000 gift donation.

UWindsor’s Odette School of Business received the matching gift from the E. & G. Odette Foundation and the P. & L. Odette Charitable Foundation.

The business school launched a $ 700,000 campaign earlier this year. with the goal of transforming your multipurpose computer lab into a world-class data analysis teaching lab. The lab will support the school’s new undergraduate and graduate specializations in data analytics and increase its ability to recruit the best business students and professors from around the world.

“The use of a state-of-the-art computer lab is a critical need for our students,” said Dr. Mitchell Fields, dean of the Odette School of Business in a press release. “Data analytics has become an important driver for all graduate and undergraduate programs at the Odette School of Business. As the use and availability of data increases, business students require the skills to analyze and understand large data sets. Our vision is to create a laboratory that is among the best in all of Canada. ”

The lab will include 50 new state-of-the-art workstations, new monitoring systems, advanced teaching technologies, high-end processors, high-speed cabling, and industry-leading software. In addition to providing teaching support, potential uses of the lab may include, but are not limited to, research projects, case contests, outreach events, and internal club contests. The total campaign will see the school raise $ 1.1 million, and the University of Windsor will internally provide $ 370,000 in equity funding to get started.

To date, the business school has received significant donations from the University of Windsor Alumni Association and several Odette alumni, which will be matched by the E.&G Odette Foundation and the P&L Odette Charitable Foundation. Construction of the new lab is expected to be completed this fall.
