US FDI registers contractions in Querétaro from January to September 2021

Querétaro, Qro. The Foreign direct investment The US contracted in 2021, since from January to September it accumulates only 35.2 million dollars in Queretaro, a figure that experiences a reduction of 92.1% in relation to the same period of 2020, according to records from the Ministry of Economy (SE).

In the first quarter of 2021 the IED of this origin it was 83.2 million dollars, for the second quarter it incorporated only 11.2 million and for the third quarter it shows negative numbers of -59.2 million dollars.

It is notable that during the first three quarters of the year the American investment the entity shows a lower rhythm in relation to previous years, since in the same period last year the figure was around 445.5 million dollars.

The accumulated investment During January-September 2020 it represented an increase of 23.6% in relation to the same period of 2019, when it was around 360.5 million dollars of US investment.

During the first nine months of the year, the IED from the United States it was the eighth, contrary to the first steps that it occupied periods ago.

In this year’s accumulated, Spain was the main issuer of IED, with 147.4 million dollars, followed by Japan with 94.9 million, Canada with 76 million, Switzerland with 72.2, Denmark with 48.9 million, the Netherlands with 48.3 million, Brazil with 41.8 million and then the United States (35.2 million).

Projects

During this year, until the first week of December, 29 private investment projects were completed in the state that in sum represent investments for 32,172 million pesos and 10,000 jobs, of which the Secretariat for Sustainable Development has records (Sedesu) from Queretaro.

Of the total number of projects, 12 are of American origin (41.4% of the total) and totaled 22,000 million pesos (68.4% of the total investment made), explained the head of Sedesu, Marco Antonio del Prete Tercero.

Regarding the number of jobs, US investments represent 5,070 jobs, that is, 50.7% of the total jobs estimated with the 29 projects.

The state secretary noted that U.S remains the main commercial partner of Querétaro, adding 6,284.1 million dollars from 1999 to the third quarter of the year, a figure that represents 33.3% of the total Foreign direct investment that the state has received in that period, show the records of the Ministry of Economy.

“The United States continues as the main commercial partner, there have been more than 6,000 million dollars of Foreign Direct Investment since 1999,” he explained.

The state agency counts 543 US companies established in the state, which are mainly engaged in the manufacture of auto parts, real estate, and the provision of professional services, among others.

After the United States –in the accumulated since 1999–, Spain is the second country with the highest direct foreign investment, contributing 3,459.1 million dollars, a figure that means 18.3% of the total IED; followed by Canada with 2,137.9 million accumulated pesos, 11.3% of the total.
