At UNevent’s second annual fundraising event hosted by United Way’s emerging Windsor-Essex philanthropists, community members participated by donating money they would have spent on an expensive night. Participants were encouraged to post their “no incident” on social media. The Ujima initiative will become part of the United Way’s On Track to Success program.

The Ujima initiative is an equity strategy that will provide cultural support and programs for black youth. It was designed based on best practices and feedback from African American students and caregivers in the On Track to Success program. The program will provide community tutoring, mental wellness support, cultural exploration, and social events.

The program is designed to increase school attendance, high school graduation rates, and enrollment in postsecondary education.

UNevent’s fundraising campaign was a month-long effort.
