Unemployment withdrawals in Afores exceed 22,000 million pesos in 2021

The partial withdrawals due to unemployment that workers make from the retirement fund administrators (Afores) reached 22,040 million pesos in all of 2021, this is a real annual increase of 3.9 percent. Likewise, the figure for 2021 is a new record since in 2020 20,060 million pesos were withdrawn.

Meanwhile, only in December 1,983 million pesos were subtracted from the Retirement Savings System (SAR), being the highest amount of all of last year. In addition, it was four months of 2021 that the amount withdrawn exceeded 1,900 million pesos.

In monthly comparison, an increase of 4.7% is observed in terms of the amount withdrawn, since in November the amount registered was 1,893 million pesos.

Partial retirement due to unemployment is a right that has helped millions of workers during the almost two years that the pandemic has been in Mexico. So much so that the Consar, in April 2021, authorized that partial withdrawals for unemployment could be processed from the Afore Móvil application.

However, there is no direct correlation between the active labor market and the unemployed who accessed this right, because there are workers who withdrew resources from their Afore account, but are active in the informal labor market.

The amount of partial withdrawals for unemployment represented 0.42% of the 5.2 trillion pesos found in the SAR, at the end of December.
