Two Kelowna Banks Hit By Poppy Donation Box Thief

Police arrested a man who allegedly stole poppy donation boxes from two separate banks.

Kelowna Mounties says a man broke into a bank on Ellis Street on November 8 and stole the poppy donation box that was on the counter.

The next day, the man attacked again. He walked into another bank on Ellis Street, pretending to ask for directions, then grabbed the donation box from the counter and ran out.

Officers arrested the man shortly thereafter.

The 24-year-old Kelowna man has since been released and is scheduled to appear in Kelowna Provincial Court on January 13 on two theft charges of less than $ 5,000.

Funds from the Poppy Campaign, which is organized by branches of the Legion, are used to support veterans and their families.
