Two arrested for graffiti on the Pilar d’Almenara in Agramunt (Lleida)


The Mossos d’Esquadra have been arrested in Mollerussa (Lleida) to two men from 25 and 29 years old for allegedly “causing damage” to the Pillar of the Beacon of Agramunt (Lleida) doing some graffiti in various points of the towerthe Catalan police reported in a statement this Thursday.

Both detainees were released after testifying at the police station with the obligation to appear before the judge when required. They are charged with a crime against historical heritagesince the Pilar d’Almenara is a 11th-12th century tower listed as a Cultural Asset of National Interest.

The Catalan police identified both men because they found graffiti of a similar style in the municipalities of Urgell and Pla d’Urgell (Lleida), whose authors had already been reported.

The Mossos have highlighted that the authors of this type of graffiti “are used to repeat signatures or symbols to increase the impact of their actions.
