While the demonstrators are dispersed in Ottawa, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) has indicated that it is preparing for all possible scenarios, in the event that demonstrators come to the metropolis.

“We are very attentive to what happened in Ottawa, and elsewhere in Canada and in Quebec. Our operational planning department follows these movements and prepares for any eventuality, ”said Vincent Richer, deputy director at the SPVM, during a press scrum on Monday.

On February 12, a rally in support of truckers took place at Jarry Park. Other similar protests have occurred in several cities across Canada in recent times.

“There is a right to demonstrate which is important, and which should not be denigrated. On the other hand, it has to be done in a certain balance for the good of the community and the rest of society,” added Mr. Richer.

For her part, the mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante, had already indicated that she would not tolerate the blockages. A position she reiterated on Monday.

“Montreal is still in a state of emergency, and it is important for us that Montrealers can move freely. The right to demonstrate is important, and we are used to it in Montreal,” she said.
