The labor board’s temporary order affects 11 people.
The United Food and Commercial Workers union, affiliated with the FTQ, filed a complaint with the Labor Ministry, arguing the use of these workers during a strike was against the Quebec Labor Code.
An inspector from the ministry visited the establishment on Feb. 16 and two others visited on March 10. In their report, filed March 22, they concluded there were strike-breaking workers present.
Administrative Judge Benoit Roy-Déry concluded that “irreparable prejudice has been proven” in this case that creates an imbalance between the two sides and risks delaying the negotiation process.
Last Friday, the workers voted 69 per cent against a deal in principle on a new contract.
In addition to IGA, Sobeys Inc. owns Marché Bonichoix, Marché Tradition, Boni-Soir and Rachelle-Béry stores.
