Monterrey, NL. The state Secretary of Health, Alma Rosa Marroquín Escamilla, reported that from this week PCR tests will be applied to detect Covid-19, to all travelers arriving from abroad through the International Airport, Due to the new Omicron variant of this virus.

“It is a different virus from the original and we have to implement strategies and have timely prevention to prevent it from spreading among the population,” said the official.

On the other hand, he said that the installed capacity of beds for Covid-19 patients, given the possible increase in cases, as well as the sequencing of tests to patients who are currently admitted to hospitals to carry out an intentional search for cases.

“We cannot be oblivious to what is happening in the rest of the world. For this reason, we have already spoken with the airport system to locate strategic points, so that international travelers can be sampled and sequenced to detect this new variant ”, he stressed.

The state official said that currently there are few details about this new variant, it is known that it is highly contagious and that a single person can spread the virus to 10 more.

Therefore, he said, the state is alert to the information that is generated to determine the additional measures that must be taken.

For now, there are no data that lead to decrease mobility or suspend activities, but if necessary, it will be done. “There are many questions around this, it is a variant of concern, we still do not know if it is so important as to alarm us and that everything has to be closed, hopefully not.”

He made an urgent call to the community to reinforce vaccination mainly among risk groups, and to continue applying preventive measures, such as frequent use of face masks, hand washing and maintaining a healthy distance from people.

This Sunday, November 28, 127 confirmed cases and nine deaths were reported, bringing the accumulated figures to 290,273 cases and 14,794 deaths.

Hospitalizations remain at 295, of which 68 have mechanical ventilation.
