Trans Mountain Pipeline Reopens After Three-Week Closure

The Trans Mountain pipeline was restarted after a three-week preemptive shutdown during a series of storms that hit southern British Columbia, causing major flooding and landslides.

Trans Mountain Corp. says in a statement that the pipeline was safely restarted Sunday after all necessary assessments and repairs were completed.

He says some of that work included building “protective earthworks” after the flooding of exposed sections of the 1,150 km pipeline that carries 300,000 barrels a day of petroleum products from Alberta to British Columbia.

Trans Mountain, a federal Crown corporation, says it is monitoring the pipeline on the ground, over the air and through its control center after the restart.

He says additional work in the coming weeks will include “shielding riverbanks” and adding ground cover or relocating sections of the pipeline.
