Tourism currencies regain strength in March


The capture of tourist currency and the arrival of tourists accelerates. The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) reported that Mexico received 2,675.6 million dollars during March, 26.5% above what was received the previous month and 116.8% more in its annual comparison, despite the fact that the average expenditure of tourists international arrivals by plane decreased 2.1%, compared to February, adding 1,146.7 dollars.

In the arrival of international tourists (international and border) there was also a good increase in March, 26.3% compared to the previous month, totaling three million 310,289 people, contrary to what happened in the second month of the year when it had a decrease compared to January. In the comparison with March 2021 arrivals grew 44.9 percent.

These results are the prelude to an April with better results due to the Easter holidays.

For his part, the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco, reported that, based on the results of the International Travelers Survey published by INEGI, between January and March 2022, 14 million 937,000 international visitors entered the country, registering a growth 30.9% compared to 2021, placing the figure at 39.3% of reaching the arrival of visitors in the same period of 2019, which was 24.6 million international visitors.

The income of foreign exchange by international visitors in the first quarter of 2022, was 6,771.9 million dollars, this is 128.2% more, compared to 2021, lacking 3.9% to reach the amount of 7,044.7 million dollars captured between January and March of 2019,” he added.

In order to promote the attractions of Mexico in the main source market for tourists, the head of the sector began a work tour of Washington this week with the intention of continuing with the tourism promotion program Operation Knocks on Doors.
