Her remains were discovered in the bag in the city’s east end on Monday afternoon around 1:30 pm on the south side of Eastern Ave. near Berkshire Ave., west of Leslie St.

“There were obvious signs of trauma to the body including some dismemberment,” Toronto Police Det. Sgt. Christopher Ruhl told reporters at the scene early Tuesday night.

“An investigation ensued and is now a homicide investigation.”

Ruhl described the woman as light-skinned of “undetermined ethnicity,” 5-foot-2, 118 pounds, with short, dark, shoulder-length hair, aged 20-40, with a distinctive design and color of nail polish on her hands and feet.

“We’re still making efforts to identify this female,” said Ruhl, of why police were releasing photos of the nails.

He said officers from Toronto’s 55 Division conducted an extensive canvas in the area for witnesses as well as video.

“I’m appealing to members of the public who were in the area of Berkshire Avenue and Eastern Avenue, between the hours of 10 am to 1:30 pm (Monday) to contact police if you observed anyone in area pushing a foldable shopping cart filled with what would appear to be black waste bags,” said Ruhl.

I’ve added any dash-cam video would be helpful, too.
