Together they end the municipal ‘opa’ in the PDECat

Junts seeks to give the final blow to PDECat. Or what is the same, the party of the ‘expresident’ Carles Puigdemont is finalizing an implacable ‘bid’ against a dozen major post-convergent mayors to definitively decapitate the almost only institutional power that remains of the party heir to Convergència, which is trying to re-found itself at the hands of other small post-convergent groups. The operation is underway and will be executed, precisely, after the umpteenth mutation of those of the ‘expresident’ Artur Mas.

Igualada, Vilafranca del Penedès, Piera, Masquefa, Puigcerdà, Deltebre, Martorell, Figueres, Lloret, Martorell… are important municipalities that are in the sights of Junts, along with many others of smaller size but also decisive for the overall result. The formula can pass both through the entrance of the mayor or the candidate in Junts now or in the medium term, as well as through a political agreement by which the mayor is presented under the initials he already had (many already consisted of the formula “Junts per .. . “and the name of the municipality in question) but puts the electoral result in the bag of the votes of Junts in order to gain weight in the councils, given that today those of Puigdemont only govern in Barcelona and hand in hand with the PSC.

The Junts leadership confirms that the action is underway and will be executed when the PDECat is transformed into another formation, because it is foreseeable that this operation will generate more desertions in the post-convergence due to the possible right-wing of the new party, since it will incorporate trend groups ultra-liberal. “We are not in a hurry, the PDECat has to finish putting the rope around its neck“, they describe in the summit of Together.

The PDECat has about 180 municipalities, according to its data. Many of them under the name of ‘Junts’ and the name of the municipality. A single common goal

But the agreement in good faith between both political leaders seems impossible despite the common adversary, ERC, which in the last municipalities already significantly surpassed Junts while JxCat (which was then the umbrella for both those of Puigdemont and those of Artur Mas and Chacon) lost more than 100,000 votes and was left without representation in key cities of the Metropolitan area from Barcelona.

Junts only assumes an absorption. You can activate different legal formulas and agreements tailored to each municipality. And with a main message: the space of PDECat and Junts Unidos is the only one that can prevent ERC from prevailing in some of the aforementioned municipalities. Moreover, according to some calculations, Esquerra could scratch some 150 more mayors than the current ones.

The reality is that in many municipalities Junts has not yet consolidated a local group and also needs to reach agreements with PDECat. And the truth is that there are still, on both sides, voices that advocate a global agreement. Like the ‘expresident’ Artur Mas, who has both supported the mayor of Junts in Barcelona, ​​Elsa Artadi, and Chacon, at the conference in which the proposal to join forces with other post-convergent spaces was made official.

The only thing they all agree on is that an agreement in Barcelona is highly unlikely. Artadi She is for the moment the candidate of Junts – waiting for possible primaries – and does not have the PDECat, which is trying to weave a candidacy with a known mayor.

The party leadership of Chacon argues that their mayors “hold out” for the time being and trust that in the long term the internal differences in Junts will explode. “We need time that perhaps we do not have,” they assume. And it is that if the opa to the post-convergent mayors is successful, the situation of the PDECat –without a presence in Parliament, with an ERE for almost the entire staff and without influence in Congress and the Senate – it will be catastrophic.
