Thank you Guardians of Canada Day

Canada Day was made possible for visitors and residents of Ottawa this year thanks to the tireless work and dedication of our police force and other public servants. We know that, once again, you have had to be away from your family and friends and give up your own Canada Day celebrations to allow us to have ours.

Thank you and your families for your dedication and sacrifices for the good of the general public. All Canadians must commit to putting the well-being of others before their own, as they do every day and on very special days.

Bravo to these graduates

Re: The ‘Convoy’ All Ottawanians Should Support, July 2nd.

What an insightful and beautiful article from Becky Rynor, expressing sentiments that most of us share but were unable to articulate. In the midst of all the chaos, bitterness and pointless protests that thousands blindly follow, there is a beautiful world of young, motivated and grateful people who venture to educate themselves to make a difference in their families and in the world as a whole.

Today, let us encourage them, support them and pray for them that all of us, especially the government, support their enthusiasm, dedication and enthusiasm for a successful and better life, so that they do not lose hope and face disappointment.

Congratulations to all the 2022 graduates.

Great article on great graduates.

We commend Becky Rynor for her sincere and upbeat suggestion that we congratulate, encourage and be aware of our new “convoy” – the 2022 high school graduates will bring so much to Canada.

Unfortunately, some of those who protest do just that: they always point out the negatives, without offering positive or realistic solutions.

I’m cheering on these high school graduates.

Why give so much space to protesters?

The Ottawa Citizen’s coverage of Canada Day events in Ottawa was irresponsible. It was a Canada Day with the first official in-person celebrations across the city since the start of COVID, but the biggest photo on its cover is of one of the protests. Desperately looking for balanced reports.

Why didn’t Ciudadano celebrate with us?

On Canada Day, there was no better feeling than coming home from a friend’s backyard after an afternoon round of golf to the delicious aroma of neighboring barbecues, Canadian flags waving proudly on front lawns to honor to this beautiful, free country, and then, as the sun sets, the endless sights and sounds of fireworks. The day was perfect, people were celebrating and the atmosphere was vibrant.

So why did the Ottawa Citizen choose to have us readers wake up to a photo of a small minority of people who just don’t get it? Why didn’t the Citizen of Ottawa celebrate with us?

Aberdeen Pavilion in disrepair again

Re: Saving Aberdeen: How Lansdowne’s Jewel Was Saved From The Wrecking Ball, Jul 1.

Andrew Duffy’s brilliant article praising the efforts of Mayor Jim Watson and former Councilor Peter Hume to save the Aberdeen Pavilion was very informative, but he failed to mention that the city of Ottawa has allowed the pavilion to fall into disrepair again.

The pavilion requires at least $6 million in renovations because no substantial maintenance has been done for 30 years. Does the city not have a budget to maintain valuable assets?
