To the bottom, storage of the Cutzamala dams

The storage of the three main dams of the Cutzamala System registered a decrease compared to the record of a week ago, recognized the National Water Commission (Conagua).

Through the General Technical Subdirectorate, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) and the Water Basin Organization of the Valley of Mexico (OCAVM), the results of the technical report on the level of dams and the monitoring of meteorological phenomena in the country were presented, in it was specified that storage was located at 58 percent.

“Which represents a decrease of 1%, compared to the data exposed on February 28 last,” reads the report.

It was detailed that the El Bosque dam was located at 56%, with 113.4 million cubic meters (Mm3), that is, with a decrease of 0.4%; Villa Victoria at 50.5%, with 93.7 Mm3 and a decrease of 0.8%, and Valle de Bravo at 62.6%, with 252.4 Mm3 and a downward modification of 1.4 percent.

large reservoirs

With regard to the 210 large dams that are registered by Conagua in the country, it was reported that these reservoirs have a total storage of 77,350 Mm3, that is, 1,118 Mm3 less than what was reported the previous week.

Until last February 28, it was documented that only three were 100% filled, with a combined total of 72 Mm3; 93 are between 75 and 100%, with 30,627 Mm3; 55, between 50 and 75%, with 37,624 Mm3, and 12 have less than 50%, with 431 Mm3.

While 43 dams have storage with less than 50% filling and less than the historical normal.

“The total storage of the 210 large dams, we have 77,350 Mm3 as of March 7 and compared to the average on the same date of 80,718, we find a deficit of 3,368 Mm3. As we can see, it has decreased in recent weeks and also the categories of dams with storage greater than 75 and 100%, it is due to the months in which we find ourselves with low rainfall and it is something normal “explained Jesús Montes Ortiz, manager of Aguas Superficial and Engineering of Rivers of the Conagua.
