Three Nuts for a Movie: Select Canadian Theaters Taking $3 Tickets This Saturday

Cinemas across Canada will sell movie tickets for just $3 this Saturday as theaters look to recover from more than two years of pandemic-related closures.

Tickets for all films, in any format, will be sold at a discounted price, plus tax, at select theaters in Canada and the United States for National Film Day.

A press release on Wednesday of the Canadian Cinema Association and The Cinema Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the National Association of Cinema Owners USA, says the one-day event will take place at more than 3,000 locations, with over 30,000 screens.

Participating theaters include Cineplex, Cinemas Guzzo, Cinemas Cine Entreprise, Imagine Cinemas, Landmark and Magic Lantern Theatres, along with a number of independent theaters, the organizations say.

“Going to the movies is back and it’s great to see our industry coming together and rallying behind National Film Day,” Canadian Film Association Executive Director Nuria Bronfman said in a statement.

“Nothing compares to watching movies with friends and family in a theater. We’re excited to join our colleagues across the US in thanking movie lovers across the country for their support and celebrating great movies and excitement.” of the big screen experience.

The announcement comes as theaters in Canada and the US recover from public health restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Labor Day weekend is traditionally a slow one for theaters, which have seen a significant uptick this summer, with even fewer openings overall, as blockbusters like “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Minions: Rise of Gru”, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Jurassic World Dominion” helped with box office sales.

However, ticket sales this summer are about 20 percent lower compared to the pre-pandemic summer of 2019.

“After the record-breaking return to theaters this summer, we wanted to do something to celebrate movie attendance,” said The Cinema Foundation President Jackie Brenneman. “We’re doing it by offering a ‘thank you’ to the moviegoers who made this summer possible and by offering an added incentive for those who haven’t returned yet.”
