They will analyze 14 requests for impeachment


The Chamber of Deputies gave entry to the analysis of at least 14 political trials against various political figures, including the advisers of the National Electoral Institute (INE), Ciro Murayama and Lorenzo Córdova; the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero; the former governor of Baja California, Jaime Bonilla; magistrates of the Electoral Court of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF), as well as President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

When the Preliminary Examination Subcommittee was installed, which will be co-chaired by the presidents of the Interior and Population Commissions, Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas (PRI), and of Justice, Fernando Macías Olvera (PAN), it was specified that said body has the exclusive task of substantiate the political trial procedure, while it was announced that the analysis of 14 cases had begun.

Although the more than 100 applications that were pending in the last Legislature will also be studied.

The president of this Subcommittee, Alejandro Moreno (PRI), reported that he will not accept “pressure or recommendations from anyone” and that “nor will it be a commission that is persecuting officials and public servants.”

He assured that all impeachment requests will be analyzed in a timely manner as required by law. In addition, they will all be discussed “in an open, frank and transparent manner.”

“We are going to act responsibly, facing society, fulfilling our responsibility,” said Moreno Cárdenas.

He affirmed that all the requests that are in the portfolio and those that will arrive in due course “are important and we will all give them the legislative process.”

“16 complaints have been filed, two did not comply with the legislative process in a timely manner, and 14 are in order,” explained the head of said legislative body.

For his part, Hamlet García Almaguer, from Moreno, explained that the more than 100 issues that were pending are still in force and must be analyzed, however, he said that there is still no calendar on when they will review each case.

He commented that there are different requests against various advisers of the National Electoral Institute (INE) and also against the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero.

Asked if there is any request that will be expedited, the deputy emphasized that one must act with diligence, and all cases will be reviewed, but “for Morena, deputy Fernández Noroña’s request is still alive,” against the INE advisers. .
