They arrest an element of the National Guard for having shot at students of the University of Guanajuato

The Attorney General of Guanajuato reported that he received in detention the element of the National Guard (GN) that presumably shot against the students of the University of Guanajuato.

On Wednesday, April 27, in Irapuato, Guanajuato, elements of the National Guard chased -for reasons still unknown- a van in which students from the University of Guanajuato (UG). An element of the GN presumably shot at the vehicle.

The young Angel, 19 years old, died from gunshots. Another student of the institution was injured and is reported as serious in a hospital.

Both Ángel and the injured young woman were studying for a degree in Agronomy at the headquarters of the Life Sciences Division of the University of Guanajuato, located in the El Copal community, in Irapuato.

The rector of the University of GuanajuatoLuis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, said: “we repudiate the violence that once again puts our university community in mourning and we join the legitimate social demand to live in an environment of peace, at the same time that we demand the prompt clarification of the facts and the consequent administration of justice”.

A first version suggests that the students went out to a meeting when they met several National Guard patrols, who began to chase them because they did not stop the van.

The governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, condemned what happened in Irapuato, and considered that there was “a disproportionate use of force” by the elements of the National Guard.
