The 29-year-old, who cannot be identified, claims she recognized Jacob Hoggard on the Tinder app, who was using the pseudonym Blaine
at the time rather than his actual name.
She explains that the singer had then proven his identity to her by sending her a photo on Snapchat and that it was not a fake account.
They will see each other by coincidence a few days later at the charity event We Day in Ottawa in which the Hedley group participates.
Justin Trudeau was also there
she says, pointing out that she was a volunteer there and that her job was to drive children to the show.
She claims he asked her to stay with him when the event was over, but she declined his offer. She adds that he then sent her a text message that evening to tell her that he was very much looking forward to seeing her again.
Attention : this text could shock some readers.
The two adults then begin online exchanges and willingly exchange photographs and text messages of a sexual nature.
He sent me a video of him masturbating
she remembers at the bar of the trial which is broadcast on zoom.
Leaving for Toronto
The complainant claims that he then paid her a train ticket to visit her on November 22, 2016 in Toronto, where they had previously agreed to have sex.
I was nervous going down to the hotel
she recalls after taking the train at dawn in Ottawa, where she lived in an apartment.
We barely said hello in the elevator and he called me “Baby” even though he knew my name
she says.
She points out that the singer’s room was not ready so she met him in another room. He slammed me against the wall to kiss me without warning
she continues.
She claims he was intoxicated by a drug, a liquid prescription of which she says she saw the bottle
on the bedroom bed. I was uncomfortable
she says.
I rebuffed his advances with my whole body and told him I found him rude.
she assures.
The woman states that she was very surprised by his behavior, which had nothing to do with that of the flattering man
who she communicated with on social media.
She specifies that they stayed in the room for about an hour while waiting for the second to be ready. We could see that he was drugged in his eyes and his speech
she says.
The alleged assault
She adds that the singer asked her to wait and walk behind him when they went to the other room, because he was afraid of being seen in her company.
He then took my phone on entering the room and put it in the drawer of the bedside table
she said, because girls used to take pictures of him.
She then recounts, with emotion in her voice and taking a long pause, that the singer immediately threw her on the bed and repeatedly raped her, first penetrating her anally, then oral and vaginal.
He buried my head in the bed, he immobilized my arms with his knees, his look was sordid
, she continues. She adds that she was crying and asking him to stop.
He hit me on the head, spit in my mouth and called me a sow imitating the growl of the pig and ordered me to be good
she recalls.
The complainant adds that he even strangled her while he was penetrating her, because she could see his reflection above the bed. He released his hands on the back of my neck when he felt I was going to pass out.
she points out.
She finally remembers that he dragged her by the legs to the bathroom to urinate on her. He asked me to do the same on him but I refused
she says.
She claims she was assaulted repeatedly for almost 4 hours between the two or three times he took a shower. That’s when she noticed she was bleeding from her private parts.
She says she was terrified and consoled herself that it would all be over when she returned to catch her train to Ottawa. He was crazy and he acted like a psychopath
she says.
Departure from the hotel
The woman points out that she left the hotel in a taxi and went to a fast food restaurant near Union Station while waiting for the train.
I called my friend B., I was embarrassed and tried to explain to her what had happened to her, but she was late for university
she says.
She claims that Jacob Hoggard sent her a text message in which he wrote that he was looking forward to seeing her again and that he had good time
.
Returning to her apartment around midnight that night, she explains that she showered before taking a long bath and that her friends B. and P. joined her at her house and that she told them everything .
I was sore, I was still bleeding, my tailbone was hurting, I had bruises on my legs
she says.
She states that she texted him the next day to tell him that he had raped her and that she expected an apology from him, but he did not.
She points out that she went to see a doctor 5 or 6 days later and has not returned to university in the meantime.
The complainant explains that she did not go to see the police, because she had consented to go to him to have a sexual relationship. I thought no one would believe anyway and it would be hard to prove anything
she concludes.
Cross-examination
Jacob Hoggard’s lawyer, Megan Savard, however, wonders about the woman’s behavior throughout this ordeal.
Me Savard recalls, for example, that the woman did not call 911 from her cell phone or from the bedroom phone and that she did not leave the bedroom when the singer left to shower at least twice, when he took a call on the balcony or when he ordered a meal upstairs.
You can’t leave a room while you’re being raped
replies the complainant.
The woman also admits that the singer never forbade her to leave the room and that he did call a taxi when it was all over
.
On the other hand, she denies the defense’s allegations that she even stayed in the room watching a movie with him. I was sitting on the bed staring into space
she explains.
Me Savard also suggests that the woman had not understood beforehand that her client was interested in rough sex and that she had misunderstood in their communications his intentions in this regard.
The lawyer reminds her that she was even confused on the phone that evening when she called B. while waiting for the return train.
You didn’t tell him you were raped and he crossed the line
, she accuses him. The woman replies that she was still too shocked to think about what had just happened to her.
The defense further noted contradictions in the complainant’s testimony compared to what she told the police in the spring of 2018 or at the preliminary inquiry in the summer of 2019.
Cross-examination continues Wednesday.
