The statue of a giant hand found on the Seine

The statue of a giant hand that floated on the Seine River in Winnipeg was found undamaged on Saturday by six canoeists and kayakers.

Charles Burchill, who was part of the expedition, said the hand, which is larger and heavier than an adult, was knocked over by flood waters earlier this spring. The current of the Seine had carried her away so that she had been wanted for several days. “We weren’t sure if the hand sank or would continue to float,” Burchill said on a Facebook page.

The statue was eventually found above the Creek Bend Bridge in Winnipeg. His discovery was filmed by the organizer of this “rescue mission”, Steve Lambert, who posted his video on Twitter. This shows the members of the expedition tying her with rope between two canoes to transport her and recover her on the shore. The hand was able to return to its original position.

The chuckycanuck.wixsite.com website explains that this giant hand had been on the property of a former museum worker on the banks of the Seine for several years. It served as a landmark for more than 10 years for people who paddled this river.

Made of fiberglass, this statue was over a meter tall and had different colors in each section of the fingers.
