The PSC came out on Monday in defense of L’Hospitalet’s mayor, Núria Marín, who is accused of conspiring to allegedly divert subsidies. The Socialists do not believe that the mayor of L’Hospitalet and Vice-President of the party should appear in Parliament to give explanations, as requested by Esquerra, and they think that this request is actually “a smoke screen to hide other issues“.
Specifically, the PSC’s deputy secretary for organization, Lluïsa Moret, believes that the Republicans want to hide “the purge” in the Mossos d’Esquadra. The Socialists therefore refer to the replacement of the Catalan police major, Josep Lluís Trapero, and several of his associates.
“The starting point is the suspicion of innocence, for everyone, including Marín,” Moret said after the party’s executive meeting. The leader, who acts as spokesperson for Elia Tortolero’s maternity leave, ensured that the mayor of L’Hospitalet was “facilitating research” during these months, and that the manner in which the case is to be resolved is the judicial one.
