“The Power of the Dog” and “The House of Gucci” Lead SAG Award Nominations

The gothic western of Jane Campion, “The Power of the Dog” and the true-crime drama “The House of Gucci” led nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Wednesday. (SAG), usually a key indicator in the race to the Oscars.

Days after “The Power of the Dog” won the Golden Globe for best drama, the stars of that film, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst Y What Smith-McPhee, each of them received the nomination of the union of actors.

Also the movie “The Gucci House” by Ridley Scott received three nominations.

However, “The Power of the Dog” did not achieve a nomination for best ensemble, the main prize to be awarded by SAG on February 27.

The film, a story of two feuding brothers in 1920s Montana, was first screened in September at the prestigious Venice Film Festival, where Campion won best director.

It has since garnered rave reviews and the film was released on Netflix.

SAG glossed over widespread mockery of Jared Leto’s lush Italian accent to nominate him for best supporting actor in “House of Gucci,” alongside Lady Gaga and the cast, which also includes Adam Driver Y Al Pacino.

Nominated for best ensemble, the equivalent of the Oscar for best picture, were “Belfast,” “CODA,” “Don’t Look Up” and “King Richard.”

Voted for by actors, the SAG Awards are considered a strong indicator of what will happen at the Oscars, as actors represent the largest branch of the estimated 10,000 voters of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The SAG Awards will be unveiled in Santa Monica, California, exactly one month before the Oscars.

On the television side, SAG handed out five nominations each for “Succession” and “Ted Lasso.”
