The Phoenix escape the third game against the Islanders

Islanders forward Xavier Simoneau scored the winning goal, scored on the power play with just over two minutes left in the game. A few moments earlier, captain Xavier Parent had received a roughing penalty. Stéphane Jr Huard and Tyson Hinds were the scorers for the Phoenix.

The island team therefore takes the lead 2 to 1 in the series three of five which opposes it to the Sherbrooke residents. The captain, Xavier Parent, admits the loss is hard to swallow.

They came strong here. They knew it was going to be loud for us, but it didn’t play on their minds, they arrived ready. […] It’s hard to swallow, but we have a chance to recover and we will.

The Phoenix pilot, Stéphane Julien, believes that his team still showed great things during the match, particularly in the last period.

We still had some great chances to score, but we didn’t manage to get a goal or two in the third period. The bad punishment at the end cost us dearly.

The head coach believes the refereeing dictated the pace of the clash. There were some weird first-half penalties from both sides. It broke the rhythm of the game a bit. […] I found that we went strong on small details, but that’s part of the sport.

A packed sports hall

All 4,500 available tickets sold for Sunday night’s game. The atmosphere at the Sports Palace was obviously electrifying. Every action on the ice generated a strong reaction from the spectators.

We experienced it in the other series, we felt the frenzy. […] We would have liked to go for the victory, but it is part of the playoffs. There is a lot of emotionsaid Stéphane Julien.

You see all the loud white jerseys, I think it screamed throughout the game. It’s the fun to play with that and I think we’re going to have to use it to our advantagesaid Xavier Parent.

The Sherbrooke squad will face elimination, starting at 7 p.m. Monday, once again at the Palais des sports Léopold-Drolet in Sherbrooke.

Everyone is going to have to play the best game of their junior career. »

A quote from Xavier Parent, captain of the Sherbrooke Phoenix

We must quickly find our emotions and come back as if nothing had happened. It had become a two out of three. Now we are fighting for our lives tomorrow. I believed in it from the startmentioned the pilot of the team, who hopes that his best players will have the upper hand on those of the Islanders, Monday.

We will be ready. »

Patrick Guay haunts his former team

Originally from Magog, Islanders forward Patrick Guay played for the Sherbrooke Phoenix for more than two years. The impressive crowd present at the Sports Palace did not intimidate him at all on Sunday, when he scored his first two goals.

It’s special to play in Sherbrooke. The fact that several friends and family members were there, it was really the fun. At first you’re a little nervous, but then it’s a hockey game. You play in front of the family, but it’s like playing in front of another person.

With a streak of seven consecutive games with at least one goal, Guay tries to forget that he is a former Phoenix when he jumps on the ice.

My level of emotion is in the same place as in the previous series. They’re my old team, but I haven’t been with them for more than a year and a half. […] We have a chance to finish a series abroad and we will do everything to make it happenhe confided in the minutes following the meeting.
