These are 7500 doses that have already been received by the province and that have been distributed in the health network during the last weekend.

Nearly 220,000 doses could also be delivered over the next few weeks, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

This vaccine can be offered to Quebecers over the age of 18 who have a contraindication to messenger RNA vaccines, such as those from Pfizer or Moderna. It is available in both first and second doses.

However, it will only be administered in walk-in clinics and at specific time slots. Appointments for this vaccination option will therefore not be available on Clic Santé.

“This approach will limit losses since the contents of the vials can only be kept for a few hours after the first puncture,” the ministry said in a press release on Wednesday.

Recall that the Novavax vaccine was authorized on February 17 by Health Canada.
