The heat drop-off is moving to Trois-Rivières

The heat shelter, which was located near the Carré de la Fosse, in downtown Trois-Rivières, in the Mauricie region, has moved to the premises of the Point de rue organization.

“The partners knew it was a temporary solution. When we were looking for a room, it was cold. We knew that there were people on the street so time was running out,” explained the head of community services organization at the Integrated University Health and Social Services Center (CIUSSS) Mauricie–Centre-du-Québec, Caroline Creamer.

The trailer loaned by the City of Trois-Rivières could accommodate between six and eight people each night. However, between 15 and 20 people will be able to warm up in the new, larger premises.

“Point de rue raised its hand to say:” you can use our room so that we can continue the heat drop-off” which should end on March 31, 2022”, added Ms. Creamer.

It is also easier to respect health instructions and distancing in these conditions, while staying warm on cold nights.

Snow storm

The Mauricie received between 15 and 25 centimeters of snow, while the Centre-du-Québec found itself under 10 to 15 centimeters. The storm was over by 10 a.m., however.

A few exits from the road took place as well as a collision on Highway 40 eastbound, near Saint-Anne-de-la-Pérade, between a pickup truck and a heavy truck.

A section of the highway then had to be closed for almost 30 minutes due to towing time. No serious injuries were reported.
