The Government changes the CEO of the ICF after the guarantee crisis

The Govern has approved to appoint Jordi ÒIiva Ritort member of the governing board and CEO of the Institut Català de Finances (ICF) with effect from this Wednesday, November 3. Òliva relieves Víctor Guardiola Flores, who has left office “voluntarily for personal reasons.” Guardiola abstained from voting on the guarantee to cover the guarantee of 5.4 million from the Court of Auditors to 34 exalted for the foreign action of the Generalitat. Three directors of the entity also resigned due to the guarantees.

Despite arguing “personal reasons”, the change takes place just three months after the discomfort of the Government, especially of the Ministry of Economy with the ICF when the entity voted its role as guarantor of the 5.4 million euros that the Court of Accounts of former senior officials of the Generalitat and that ended with Guardiola himself abstaining and votes against three independent members who have already been relieved.

Òliva has spent most of his professional career in the banking sector, especially at Deutsche Bank and CaixaBank, where he was the business director of institutions, both in the public sector and entities, foundations, political parties and unions. He also highlights his time in the public administration between 2011 and 2015, where he served as general director of Financial Policy and Treasury of the Generalitat with Andreu Mas-Colell as ‘Minister’ of Economy. From that position he had to deal with the crisis in the L’Aldea cooperative, and also held a position on the ICF governing board. In turn, he thanked Víctor Guardiola for “the effective management of the ICF under his direction.” Guardiola joined as CEO at the beginning of this year, after extensive experience in the banking sector, mainly at CaixaBank and replacing Josep Ramon Sanromà, who retired.
