That same day, investigators arrested the victim’s brother. And the case, apparently, was clarified. On April 28, however, the Catalan police also arrested the woman’s ex-husband. This Wednesday he has communicated that he considers that the ex-partner is actually the material author of this death.
The news that the person who supposedly killed this woman and left her body in a container was actually the ex-husband has turned this crime into a new case of sexist violence. And to the woman, in the fifth that buries the sexist violence in Catalonia this 2022.
a body in poor condition
The woman’s body was found at eleven o’clock in the morning on Monday, March 4, inside a container arranged at the confluence created by the streets of Pau Casals and the street of La Estació in La Granada del Penedès. It was in a deteriorated state, enough so that the people who discovered it initially mistook her body for that of a man.
The researchers, however, were able to identify him without problems. And before the end of the day, in addition, they were able to relate this murder to the victim’s brother, who was arrested before the end of the day. The Court of Instruction 4 of Vilafranca del Penedès (Barcelona), after taking a statement, sent the suspect to provisional prison a few days later. For society, also for the press, the case seemed closed. But the investigation, whose proceedings have been kept secret to date, continued. And on April 28, investigators also arrested the woman’s ex-husband. The same court also sent him to jail. The two men would have participated in the crime, according to police sources.

This latest arrest has meant an unexpected turn in the case, which has become a homicide of a sexist nature and the victim has become the fifth woman to bury sexist violence in 2022 in Catalonia. The previous four were killed in Martorell, Barcelona, Vilanova del Cami Y Lloret de Mar.
Since they began to be counted, in 2003, the figure has risen to more than a thousand. According to data from the Ministry of Equality, in Spain 84% of the victims murdered in 2020 by their sentimental partner –or by their ex-partner– had not gone to the police.
