The emergence of Ómicron has not affected the flow of tourists to the Mexican Caribbean

So far, the emergence of the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 pandemic has not generated a negative impact on reservations, or on the flow of tourists to destinations in the Mexican Caribbean, explained Andrés Gerardo Aguilar Becerril, in charge of the office of the Tourism Secretariat of Quintana Roo.

In an interview, he said that the Mexican tourism sector authorities are very aware of the provisions that each country determines and redoubling prevention measures in order to remain a safe place for travelers. “We have a destination that takes care of its visitors and its collaborators,” he stressed.

The official explained that sanitary protocols In the entire chain of tourist attention in the state, together with the vaccination of employees and the general population, they allow us to be in a position to offer a safe and reliable destination for vacationing.

He recalled that the attractions of that entity have health protection and prevention certifications in tourist facilities that recognize more than 30 types of service providers.

With this, more than 1,000 units of the links of the entire value chain have been certified, for example, taxis, hotels, shops, hotels and consumption centers.

In Quintana Roo there are 116,000 hotel rooms, of which 89,000 are enrolled in the Health Prevention and Protection Platform.

On the matter, he said that these two countries had been evolving as intermittent markets, due to the fact that their authorities implemented very restrictive mobility measures. In the case of Canada, it went from being the second most important market to the sixth for destinations in Quintana Roo.

Meanwhile, Brazil has been rebounding and the arrival of travelers from that country is expected to increase considerably, since the Sao Paulo-Cancun Route will be reactivated on December 15, with three weekly frequencies.

Full houses are expected during the end of the year in some destinations

The state official explained that the end of the year season is very important for the state’s tourism industry and, according to reservation records, it is expected to exceed occupancy rates of 90 and 95 percent.

It is even estimated that some destinations in the northern part of the state will reach 100 percent a few days.

According to the person in charge of the office, it is estimated that, at the end of this year, the destinations of the Mexican Caribbean will receive more than 12.5 million tourists, which means a recovery of 80% of tourist activity compared to the levels registered in 2019 , before the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This has allowed us to recover sooner and we hope that by the beginning of next year, not only will the activity have been reestablished but that we can grow a little more,” he added.
