The design of the future LiceuMar will be decided with an architecture competition


The Board of Trustees of the Gran Teatre del Liceu reported the unanimous approval of the implementation of the preparation of an international architecture competition to choose the best project for the LiceuMar, which will be the second headquarters of the institution with 175 years of history on La Rambla in Barcelona. Chaired by Salvador Alemany, the representatives of all the administrations, the Society of the Gran Teatro del Liceo and the Patronage Council of the Board of Trustees have approved in the same meeting held this Monday the programming and the economic budget of the new season 22/23 that will be will present this Tuesday.

All members of the Board of Trustees have been informed about the Pre-agreement reached with the Port Authority of Barcelona to locate a second headquarters of the Liceu in the space where the Imax is now located. The cinema, which has been in disuse for years, will be demolished and after the America Sailing Cup to be held in the spring-summer of 2024, a new building will be erected on the site for the LiceuMar it will host newly created opera, chamber opera and regular dance seasons.
