The dangerously high water level in Gatineau

The city of Gatineau posted a message on its Facebook page on Monday urging its residents in the Saint-Louis Street and Cartier Street sectors to prepare for possible flooding.

Citizens of this sector, affected more often than not in recent years by floods, will be able to pick up sandbags as of Tuesday, May 24.

After monitoring the water level in recent weeks, experts from the regional civil security organization (ORS) advised the City that the accumulation of water in the Baskatong reservoir is faster than expected.

Due to the heavy precipitation received in the last few days and the high temperature, the water in the reservoir will have to be gradually released in order to avoid mechanical damage.

However, the floods should be less severe since the excess water will come only from the Gatineau River and not from the Ottawa River as in 2019.
