The Covid-19 pandemic boosted book reading in Mexico

The habit of reading is not one of the strong ones among the Mexican population and this is not strange in the midst of levels of poverty and marginalization that persist in some parts of the country. Reading behavior is related to variables such as gender, schooling, and socioeconomic and geographic conditions.

Despite these obstacles, it is observed that the pandemic reversed the downward trend that had occurred in recent years. 4 out of 10 literate Mexican adults consume books and the average number of books read per year rose to 3.9, its highest level since 2016.
