The CDMX government rules out developing more infrastructure for the Metrobús network in 2022

For this year, expanding the infrastructure of the Metrobús network is ruled out, derived not only from a budget issue but also from lack of human resources, reported the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

At a press conference, the local capital president explained that the project to build a new line in the Bicentennial Circuitthe extensions to Alameda Oriente and Periferico will not be made either.

He stated that although the factor of economic resources was a trigger, there is also the fact that there are not enough people to carry out more infrastructure works, since the construction of projects such as the Intercity Train Mexico-Tolucathe Elevated Trolleybus, as well as the reconstruction of Line 12 of the Metro.

“This year, for now, there is no progress in these works and we are seeing if we do it for next year (…) It is not only a matter of budget capacity, but of the number of people who have to to be doing works of such magnitude”, he assured.

“Remember that we are in charge of the Interurban Train, not only the restoration of the line 12, but also the Elevated Trolleybus that is being built; the work that is being done in the Metro, which is held with the Federal Electricity Commission, for the start-up of the new Control System for Lines 1 to 6; all the modernization of the Electric Power System, and what also has to do with the renewal of the public transport vehicle fleet”, stressed Sheinbaum Pardo.

The leader of the local Executive explained that they are also carrying out works to improve the distribution of water for the capital.

“We have been doing increase the capacity of the Lerma system with the re-drilling of some wells that have been very important, that were abandoned. In the same way, another fundamental part is that improvements have been made to the wells within the city”, he stressed.

Regarding whether the country’s capital could face a similar water scenario to that of Monterrey, Nuevo León, the local president indicated that they are doing everything possible to avoid it, however, she acknowledged that the Mexico’s valley faces a drought situation.

“ We are doing everything, we have experienced a difficult situation, because there are areas that we, for this date, our objective was that they no longer have the tandeo (…) but due to this situation of such serious drought that the Basin has experienced, well There has been this problem, ”he deepened.

Sheinbaum Pardo recalled that about 75% of the water supply for the Mexico City It comes from the wells that are in the city and the State of Mexico. The other parts that supply the city are the Lerma System and the Cutzamala System.

“It has rained much less in the last three years than it had in previous years, the dams of the Sistema Cutzamalawhich are various dams from the state of Michoacán to the State of Mexico that are pumped to Mexico City, have not had the amount of water that they historically had,” he said.

“During the dry season, in 2018 we had around 10.5 cubic meters per second of contribution from the Cutzamala System; right now, we are receiving 8.4 cubic meters per second; that is, less than 2 cubic meters per second,” he added.

He stated that they expect the Sectorization System and the leak reduction program help control the situation.

At the same time, he announced that they are working on a new plan with the Mexico state and with the municipalities.

“We are with a comprehensive program that we would expect, after April 10, to be able to inform it together with the governor of the State of Mexico and the National Water Comissionof different works that are being done to bring water resources from outside the Valley of Mexico Basin or from the northern part of the Valley of Mexico Basin, and other projects that are being developed to improve the amount of water,” he pointed out. .
