The CAQ gives the green light to the tramway project in Quebec

The Legault government finally gives the green light to the Quebec City tramway project, without conditions related to social acceptability. The Council of Ministers approved the decrees now allowing the filing of calls for tenders.

Québec thus allows the city to go ahead with its call for tenders for rolling stock.

No conditions are attached to these new decrees. Nothing on social accessibility, confirms Quebec.

“There are no closures in the decrees,” said Transport Minister François Bonnardel, arguing that it is up to the mayor of Quebec, Bruno Marchand, to improve the social accessibility of the project.

Additional money has even been added to these decrees. “We have authorized additional sums for the preparatory work,” said Mr. Bonnardel.

The Minister responsible for the National Capital, Geneviève Guilbeault, for her part stressed that she was “very happy” with this outcome.

Only one condition of the project: the federal government will have to pay 40% for the entire project. This declaration must be in writing.
