TFC standout young man Marshall-Rutty included in the Next Generation roster

He’s still too young to order a drink, but Toronto FC forward Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty is “loaded” with talent and has been recognized for it.

The 17-year-old Brampton native was recently featured on The Guardian’s Next Generation list, honoring the world’s 60 best young soccer players born in 2004.

The renowned British news site lists Marshall-Rutty as the 14th most promising player of that age, a great honor for the young TFC standout.

Earlier this year, MLSSoccer.com reported that Marshall-Rutty had caught the attention of European soccer powerhouses Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus, Porto and Bayern Munich.

Marshall-Rutty moved to the MLS team from TFC in January 2020, becoming the youngest player to sign a first-team contract with the club at age 15.

In January 2021, he received his first call-up to the Canadian senior team for a team camp, becoming the youngest player ever to be called up for the senior team, beating Alphonso Davies’ record by five days. Davies did the guardianin 2017 at No. 12, when he was still with the Vancouver Whitecaps. He is now a major star with Bayern Munich and the Canadian national team.

According to the guardian Report, Marshall-Rutty is a fast right back, his crosses are exceptionally accurate and he can also turn inside and prepare forwards. He has had limited time with the first team this season, recording 85 minutes spread over five substitute appearances. Marshall-Rutty received an assist in a game on April 17 against Canadian rival CF Montréal.

The Reds are on a five-game unbeaten streak and have won their last two MLS games with six regular-season games remaining in the season.

TFC will not make the MLS Cup playoffs, but the club is still in pursuit of the Canadian Championship and will face Pacific FC of the Canadian Premier League in the semifinal on November 3 at BMO Field. The Reds’ next action in MLS is Oct. 16 against Atlanta United at BMO Field.
