Telesites expands 36% since 2015 due to organic growth and acquisitions

Telesitesan infrastructure company for the placement of cellular communication sending and receiving antennas and spun off from America Movil In 2015, it invoiced 8,680.6 million pesos during the year 2021, approximately 434.40 million dollars and about 573 million pesos more than in 2020.

The tower company, as this type of company is identified in its industry, has grown 85% in its turnover since its creation in October 2015, when comparing the income of 2021 with that of that year, for around 284 million dollars back then.

At the end of 2021, Telesites registered 20,049 towers available for the market, including equipment installed on the roofs of buildings or land. Of that infrastructure19,742 towers are located in Mexico and 307 towers are available in Costa Rica.

In the year, the company grew its availability of towers by 6.0%, mainly due to an acquisition of 928 towers whose original property could have been Telmex, since both companies communicate in their reports to the stock market the sale and purchase of a strong stock of towers. without precisely disclosing the name of the buyer or seller.

During the year 2020, Telesites had increased its tower construction rate by 5.3%, to close that cycle with an availability of 18,187 towers available for Telcel, its main client, and third-party companies.

Telesites has grown its tower infrastructure portfolio by 36.6% since its creation in 2015, from 12,512 towers that year, to 20,049 equipment available as of the last day of 2021.

The company reported having signed 3,616 contracts for the use of sites in towers with third-party companies other than Telcelincluding AT&T, Telefónica, Totalplay, Telmex, Telnor, Coefficient Communications, Altán Redes, Marcatel and Grupo Televisa’s Operbes as main users, and that each of its towers has 1.3 operators using it.

The investment, both organic and through acquisitions of Telesites, says Gerardo Mantilla, an analyst at Artifex Consulting, is also due to the opportunities that 5G technology brings and its use in various applications for the productive sector, entertainment and communication.

The challenge for companies like Telesites is how to adapt their business models to technical challenges that imply, for example, the fact that in the short term more sites will be needed, with more spaces for more smaller antennas in more densely populated places. which will mean high data consumption.

“These companies have a lot of potential for growth in terms of number of sites and number of sites thanks to the growth of 5G, because the fifth generation networks they require a greater number of sites compared to those available to date, specifically in the middle bands. At 3.5 GHz, 20 sites will be needed for each station in the low bands of 700 MHz, for example. These bands require up to 20 additional sites to cover the same coverage in an urban geographic area and that will generate a significant change in the sites of the tower companies (…) For now there is a market and the results of Telesites prove it”, said Mantilla.
