A judge found the teen guilty in June of gang sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon and battery after another teen was sodomized with the handle of a broom in a St. Michael’s College School locker room in 2018.

The prosecution argued that the teenager should spend three months behind bars for what it called a “violent and humiliating” incident.

The defense argued that the teenager should receive a two-year probationary sentence without jail time, like four others who pleaded guilty in the same incident.

The sexual assault was captured on cell phone video and widely shared on social media before police launched an investigation, sparking a national discussion about hazing in youth sports.

The judge said the accused teenager could have chosen not to participate.

No youth can be named involved in the process due to the provisions of the Juvenile Criminal Justice Act.
